Paying for Abortions
Why is it so hard for some people to accept that I don’t want to pay for abortions?
I’m way past believing that the abortion issue is one that can be solved by government. See my post from yesterday. If we want less abortions in America, women need to stop getting pregnant if they don’t want a baby. How you do that is your business (but don’t confuse that statement with a belief that I don’t have an opinion on how you could best accomplish that. I surely do.)
I’m also way past believing that I can solve the abortion issue. All I can do is raise my daughters in such a way that I minimize the chance that they will get pregnant before they are ready to have a baby (and make me a grandfather.) I also endeavor to raise my sons in such a way as to deter them making a girl pregnant before they are ready to be a father. And I can only do the best I can. I’m not naive enough to believe that my program is fool-proof either. So far, so good, fingers crossed and all that.
So, since I believe in at least trying to walk the walk I talk, I’m doing what I can to lower the abortion rate in America. I have a circle of influence (my children), and I take advantage of that. Yes I have a selfish motive: I’m not ready to be called Grandpa yet. Maybe I hit an important note there: selfish ambition. I wonder if anyone makes a six figure income working in the abortion industry?
Anyway, it is hard work rasing kids these days anyway. More and more, the culture seems to work against me. Everything seems sexually charged. Kids are led to believe that it is impossible for them to remain celibate until marriage. Worse, they are told that they shouldn’t. Biology and all that.
Mean while, I’m working and paying taxes. In a country, by the way, that was founded on a little argument about being taxed without representation. “No taxation without representation” has a nice, rhyming ring to it. It means that the people have a right to determine what their taxes are being used for. That’s why Congress is vested with the power to levy taxes. I would like to do a poll some time and find out how many hard working people would cut a check each payday to an abortion clinic-sorry, I meant to say a family planning center- so that abortions could remain “legal, safe, and rare.” And they want to go back to spending MY money on abortions.
And don’t feed me any crap about how my money will be earmarked for contraceptives, or “education”. Earmark my eye (with apologies to Cheech and Chong.) Do you think I’m stupid enough to believe that more money in the “education” fund won’t mean that original money in that fund won’t get shifted to the “kill your unwanted baby” fund?
Give me a break. If you want abortions to be safe, legal, and rare, cut the check yourself and send it to Planned Parenthood. Leave me out of it.
